Fraction Website Practice

This website offers practice with fractions in a fun, game-based manner. This is the same website I showed my Advanced Math class but would be appropriate for all students. Determine which skill you need the most help on and practice that skill first to help you master it.

The main website is:

http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/math.htm

I recommend anything under the Fractions section but we looked at the Least Common Denominator and Adding Fractions game during class today.

Key Vocabulary Ideas- September 2011

In all 6B math classes we are currently working with ALGEBRA. Here are some key ideas that are important to know and understand.

  1. Expression
  2. Equation
  3. Algebraic
  4. Solution
  5. Inequalities

All of these words can be found in your textbook, however, here is a GREAT website for detailed definitions and descriptions:

http://www.mathsisfun.com/definitions/index.html

During our class discussions we will go over each of these concepts but it is good to also review them at home, too.

Student Council Representatives!

Congrats to the 6B Student Council Representatives: Morgan Materna, Cameron Schneider, Nick Witt, and Addison Kaiser. There will be a Student Council Meeting tomorrow morning, Wednesday, at 7:45am in Mrs. Hager's room for the newly elected representatives. Everyone that ran did an excellent job!

Mental Math Reminders

In General Math we discussed mental math today. Remember that the COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY is where the order of the numbers can change and the ASSOCIATIVE PROPERTY is where the grouping of the numbers can change. Both properties ONLY work with addition and multiplication!

Awesome Resources!

There has been great demand for the website I showed to my 8th hour math class on ordering integers (positive and negative numbers). Even if you are not in my 8th hour class you really should check out this game (and the rest of the site) as it provides a fun way to practice a variety of math skills:

and another integer practice game:
